Exam Results

As pupils enter Y10 Heritage Park, they begin working towards accreditations that will stand them in good stead on leaving school. All Key Stage 4 pupils work towards Entry Level (EL)/Functional Skills (FS) qualifications, which can be taken at various times during an academic year. Once they have gained one level, they move on to working towards the next level. Pupils will be assessed as to their starting point, with EL1 being the lowest and FS2 being the highest level (FS1 is the equivalent to a GCSE grade 3, FS 2 is the equivalent to a grade 4 and above).

By adapting this approach, it ensures pupils are given the opportunity to achieve the highest-level qualification which is achievable to them. Although Entry Level and Functional Skills are sat under exam conditions they are spread out over time and can be repeated if pupils do not obtain the pass mark. This approach is not as stressful for the pupils as sitting a GCSE which for some of our pupils is not a suitable pathway due to their high levels of anxiety.

Pupils which we believe are able to cope with the demands of a GCSE examination may be entered for up to 3 GCSEs, in Maths, English and/or Science. GCSE exams are sat over a period of weeks, towards the end of Y11. These are national exams, with the timetable for the exam dates being set nationally and every school must adhere to that timetable.
